Law
  • Domestic Violence, Crime and Victims Act 2004. This Act has introduced the 'Victim Surcharge' to criminal courts and every practitioner should be aware of this. Don't be surprised when your client is slapped with an extra £15 penalty!
  • In the Matter of J (Children) Family law – ‘robust’ residence decision in favour of father wanting to relocate to Bulgaria with children upheld by the Court of Appeal.
  • European Ecological Crimes. The EU has proposed a raft of new environmental laws that clearly dictate criminal policy to member states.
  • Pearson v Charter. An architect's professional negligence has been ruled not to be defencible on the basis that another architect could reasonable have been expected to discover his shortcomings.

    Content Analytics: Making sense of documents without reading them. In conjunction with a number of highly specialist developers of mathematical and psychological computing tools, Legal Insight undertook a controlled ‘blind’ trial of a new approach to profiling documents.     12/04/07 (UK): War Protestors’ Trial: Expert To Give Evidence An expert on international law will give evidence at the trial of three war protestors that is, by its very nature, sure to have political overtones.


    10/4/07 (US): Expert: Bin Bags Match in Murder Case A forensic examiner has told jurors at a woman's murder trial that garbage bags removed from her residence were identical to those wrapped around her husband's dismembered body.


    6/04/07 (US): Spector Trial: Experts Fees To Be Disclosed Prosecutors have sought disclosure of all experts' fees in the Phil Spector trial. In a 9 page motion they sought disclosure of "all remuneration" to the Defence's thirteen (yes,thirteen!) experts.


    26/3/07 (UK): Forensic Evidence Results In Parliamentary Discussion The case of a British Jewish student believed to have been murdered in Germany by a neo-Nazi gang was discussed at a specially arranged Parliamentary meeting.
