  • George v R [2007] EWCA Crim 2722 Criminal: Full Judgement of the Barry George appeal. The Appellant succeeded largely due to questionable forensic evidence being given greater weight than it should have at the original trial.

    07/12/07 (UK): Expert's Non-Opinion Fails to Impress Judge in Fallon Case Following defence submissions in the Kieren Fallon race fixing case, the trial judge has ordered a halt to the proceedings and has withdrawn the matter from the jury due to lack of evidence, even taking the Prosecution as its highest.


    05/12/07 (UK): Southall Case Causes Outrage In Medical Profession Professor David Southall, the paediatrician involved in the case of the husband of Sally Clark has been struck off the Medical Register by the GMC. He had wrongly accused Mr Clark of murdering their children, and, according to the ruling, had shown "deep-seated attitudinal problems" over a long period of time.


    29/11/07 (UK): Government Set To Adopt U.S Approach To Rape Trials? The Solicitor General, Vera Baird, has announced that a panel of experts, incorporating judges, doctors and academics will be working on a 'package' of reforms on rape trials designed to increase conviction rates whilst maintaining the fairness of a jury trial.


    22/11/07 (India): Ever Been Fired For Being An Expert? Mr B. Harikrishnan, is a computer expert based in Mumbai, India, and when he heard that the defence in a murder case required the services of an expert in SMS technology, he stepped forward and volunteered his services.
